Churh Mobilization
Português | English
There are hundreds of churches in Beira, and each church is full of men, women, young people and children who seek to know God and be a part of his plan for the city. However, Pastors and church are limited by the lack of opportunities for training. Furthermore, the Church is fragmented and there is little value placed on investing in young people and giving them opportunities to lead.

In response to this, Church Mobilization has developed a range of projects to grow the capacity of the Church, so that believers can have deeper intimacy with God and greater involvement in their communities. Through the programme churches are better equipped to lead Able to Decide, Community Development and Child Development programmes in partnership with Oasis.

Youth Leadership Development

Since 2003 we have been running a yearlong training course for youth leaders. We now have around 200 graduates. As well as training the young people, we support them in setting up sustainable initiatives in their churches and communities, or we link them with other Oasis projects so they can act as volunteer project leaders in their churches.

Seeing the Bigger Picture

We desire that Christians in Beira meet together and grow in their vision of what God is doing in the city. We facilitate this through citywide prayer events and an annual youth event called ‘Connections’ for young people from all over Beira to worship and be changed together.

Facilitating Cross-Cultural Exchange

Church Mobilization places teams of short-term volunteers from overseas in Mozambican churches. The teams are able to model holistic ministry within the church and encourage local believers, whilst growing in their understanding of cross-cultural mission and what God is doing in Africa.

Future Plans

Oasis has a history of running church seminars and speaking at church events. From September 2008 we hope to complement this with monthly seminars in 4 areas on the city to equip Pastors and leaders, and encourage unity in the Church. In January 2009 we will run a course for Pastors on how to mentor and support volunteer leaders in their congregations. This should contribute to all the Oasis programmes as all the programmes depend on the work of volunteers.
